HEMEXPO, Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, is pleased to announce the commencement of its cooperation with Mr. Vassilios Demetriades, who has been appointed Principal Advisor – EU Regulatory Policy & Government Affairs.
Mr. Demetriades will represent and promote the interests of Greek marine equipment manufacturers in Brussels and at national regulatory level, at a time of intensified global competition and profound regulatory transformation in the maritime sector.
Mr. Demetriades brings more than 27 years of experience in global and European shipping, combining senior-level policy expertise with in-depth institutional knowledge of EU decision-making. He previously served as Shipping Deputy Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, where he played a key role in shaping national and European maritime policy. Earlier in his career, he worked for many years within the European institutions, including as a policy officer coordinating EU maritime policy, contributing to the development and implementation of core EU regulatory frameworks affecting shipping, ports, and the wider maritime economy.
This cooperation significantly strengthens HEMEXPO’s strategic presence and effectiveness in Brussels, enhancing its ability to engage with the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, and key stakeholders on issues of industrial policy, sustainable transport, trade negotiations, and regulatory competitiveness. Mr. Demetriades’ deep understanding of EU processes will support HEMEXPO’s efforts to ensure that Greek and European marine equipment manufacturers are properly represented and supported in an increasingly complex regulatory and geopolitical environment.
Reinforcing advocacy capacity at EU level remains a strategic priority for HEMEXPO, as Europe advances major initiatives on maritime industrial policy, decarbonisation, sustainable investment, and global trade, all of which have a direct impact on the competitiveness of European manufacturing.
Mr. Demetriades’ appointment reflects HEMEXPO’s commitment to proactive, credible, and results-oriented engagement with policymakers, ensuring that the voice of Greek marine equipment manufacturers is heard clearly and effectively in Brussels and beyond.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Vassilios Demetriades stated:
“I am pleased to cooperate with HEMEXPO at a crucial time for the European maritime industry. Strengthening the voice of Greek and European marine equipment manufacturers in Brussels is essential to ensure fair competition, effective regulation, and strong industrial support. I look forward to contributing my experience to this effort.”
