The Moments that Shaped HEMEXPO
Founded in 2014, HEMEXPO emerged from a bold vision to unite and promote Greece’s marine equipment manufacturing industry on the global stage. Inspired by shipping leaders Capt. Panagiotis Tsakos and Mr. Simeon Palios, the association set out to showcase the capabilities of Greek manufacturers, foster innovation, and secure their place in international shipbuilding supply chains. Over the past decade, HEMEXPO has grown into a dynamic network of member companies, driving technological excellence, export growth, and strategic collaborations worldwide. Today, it stands as a catalyst for sustainable progress, with Greek-made equipment installed on over 10,000 ships globally and a clear mission to strengthen Greece’s position as a leader in marine technology.

The Establishment
Driven by innovation and a shared outward-looking vision, fifteen leading Greek marine equipment manufacturing companies united their strengths to establish HEMEXPO, creating a collective platform to promote Greek innovative products in the global shipbuilding industry.
2014
Participation in the First Exhibition
In 2014, HEMEXPO participated in MARINE TECH in South Korea, marking its very first collective and organized international presence. This debut in one of the world’s most competitive and dynamic shipbuilding markets signaled a milestone moment, positioning Greek marine equipment manufacturers on the global stage and opening new paths for international partnerships.
2015
Membership in SEA Europe
HEMEXPO became a member of SEA Europe, marking a milestone that provided institutional representation at the European level and a unique opportunity to actively engage in the continent’s maritime equipment and shipbuilding ecosystem.
2016
Partnership with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for the Creation of High-Value Jobs
With the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s Recharging the Youth Initiative, HEMEXPO created 65 new jobs in Greece, offering young professionals valuable work experience in the marine equipment industry and strengthening their access to long-term employment opportunities.

Lloyd’s List Piraeus International Centre Award
At the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards 2016, held at the Athenaeum InterContinental on December 2nd, HEMEXPO received the prestigious Piraeus International Centre Award. The honor recognized HEMEXPO’s contribution to establishing Piraeus as a global shipping and financial hub, equipped with Greek-made products, while reaffirming its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and a dynamic future in marine equipment manufacturing.

At Posidonia 2018, the world’s leading maritime exhibition, HEMEXPO organized the largest national pavilion, spanning 420 m². The showcase highlighted the strength, innovation, and dynamism of Greek companies, reinforcing the prominent role of the Greek marine equipment sector on the global stage

Achievement of 30 Member Companies
From its 15 founding members, HEMEXPO grew to represent 30 companies, while the collective turnover of its members nearly tripled- a milestone that reflects the association’s rapid growth, increasing influence, and strong contribution to the global marine equipment industry.
2024
10 Years of HEMEXPO – 10 Years of SEAnergies
Celebrating a decade of achievements under the slogan “10 Years of SEAnergies”, HEMEXPO hosted a commemorative event on December 3rd at the historic Skaramangas Shipyards in Athens. The gathering showcased innovative products by Greek manufacturers, underlined their vital contribution to the national economy, and highlighted HEMEXPO’s vision and goals for the future.
2025
SEASTARS: First-Time Participation in a Horizon Europe Programme
HEMEXPO participated for the first time in a Horizon funding program, taking on the role of Leader for the Dissemination and Communication Work Package. By leveraging its strong network of contacts, HEMEXPO enhanced the project’s visibility and strengthened its presence in European research and innovation initiatives.
