We are delighted to announce that HEMEXPO has signed a Declaration of Intent (DOI) with DAMEN Shipyards. The DOI aims to promote the bilateral relationship between the shipping and shipbuilding communities in Greece and the Netherlands and enhance co-operation in the field of shipbuilding, marine equipment and ship technology.
Following discussions related to the integration of HEMEXPO members into DAMEN’s supply chain covering the Hellenic Navy Corvette programme and beyond, the DOI formally recognises HEMEXPO’s interest in presenting smart ship solutions from Greek marine equipment manufacturers to the Dutch shipbuilding market. It also conveys DAMEN’s interest in furthering its collaboration with parties in the Greek maritime and defence industry as required.
Under the terms of the DOI, HEMEXPO and DAMEN have agreed to further develop co-operation, including:
- Adding members of HEMEXPO where possible into DAMEN’s supply chain.
- Encouraging co-operation between Greek and Dutch stakeholders in shipbuilding, marine equipment and ship technology to promote respective activities, including the exchange of knowledge, skills and industry best practice.
- Working together on ad-hoc projects
- Exchanging information on new equipment and solutions developed.
- Establishing channels of co-operation among stakeholders and actively supporting networking events.
- Encouraging DAMEN Shipyards to include an extended list of companies manufacturing marine equipment originating from Greece in its makers list.
- Encouraging stakeholders to seek cooperative ventures in the fields of environmental protection, innovation, research and development of marine equipment.
Elias Mallios, Vice President of HEMEXPO, said: “With 35 shipyards located across five continents, DAMEN is one of the most sustainable and connected shipbuilders in the world. I am deeply honoured to have signed this declaration of intent which will see our organisations work together on a range of projects and initiatives. Collaboration is crucial for the industry as we move towards a sustainable shipping framework and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with DAMEN.”
